GBE2 #46 - Dancing

I haven't been dancing since I was married. I doubt very much I'd even be able to last an entire song these days, but that doesn't mean I don't dance in my mind when I hear music I enjoy.

Steel Drum
I always loved slow dancing more than any other dance, but I also love Latin rhythms as well as the sounds of the Caribbean. Even if I don't know a single step, my soul is dancing - quite well, thank you - to the beats of the drums or the maracas or, especially, the steel drums. OMG - I love to hear those drums. They are so musical and so UNdrumlike. It's so hard not to get caught up in the rhythms.

I used to love watching Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire and James Cagney hoofing it. I loved the old musicals where others would join in song and dance such as Danny Kaye, Donald O'Connor and others who were known to do a soft shoe or two (Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, so many of that era). I wanted to dance like them. Not Ginger Rogers, although she was a wonderful dancer. But, she didn't lead and rarely danced solo. I loved that these men could dance ALONE and that they could turn music into action. I always dreamed of doing that.

These days, other than the occasional butt-wiggle in front of the cats or my daughter, my dancing is limited to either my imagination or while seated with both feet on the floor. I think that life will be over when I can no longer dance even in my heart.

Ah, but dancing is dancing no matter the actual action involved and dancing in your head, oh yeah, I look good doin' that!

I love watching Donald O'Connors "Make Them Laugh" from Singing in the Rain. The dancers you mentioned make dancing look easy. I haven't square danced in gazillion years, but I remember how much fun it used to be. A few years ago, I performed Thriller with a large group of other zombies. There is nothing like dancing! Thanks for stopping by my blog.
